The Ancilla College women's bowling team became the first team from outside the state of Michigan to win a MCCAA title in the 92 year history of the organization on Friday when the claimed the MCCAA Women's Bowling Champions. The Chargers knocked down 8,496 pins in the 16 games to finish 620 pins ahead of runner up Muskegon Community College. Both teams qualify for the NJCAA Women's Bowling National Championship in Cheektowanga, NY on March 2-3. Ancilla is the third different team in three years to claim the MCCAA title.
Freshman Brooklynn Schulz continued her dominance on the lanes, claiming the MCCAA women's All-Event championship with 1,604 to finish 30 pins ahead of Jamie Perry of Muskegon. Five of Schulz eight games were over 200 including a 223 and a pair of 220. Perry claimed the MCCAA Singles title with a 645 series, finishing 76 pins ahead of Schulz. Perry shot 206-215-224 for the three game singles competition.
Schulz combined with Alecia Albanese to claim the MCCAA Doubles title. Schulz shot 622, while Albanese had a 568 for a six game total of 1,190. they finished 45 pins ahead of teammates Angelique McKeny and Megan Heflin.
The top ten All-Event bowlers were named to the All-MCCAA team. Schulz, Perry, Heflin, McKeny and Albenese were joined by Kendra Schuitmea (Muskegon), Taylor Landes (Ancilla), Desiree Moore (Schoolcraft), Taylor Ellison (Ancilla) and Ashlyn Cross (Muskegon) on the team.
The top six bowlers that were not on either Ancilla or Muskegon qualified as individual for the NJCAA National tournament. Those bowlers were from Schoolcraft Moore, Sharon Kovacs, Michelle Marek and Kayla Jackson. Chelsea Claeys and Emerald Forbes of Mid Michigan Community College also qualified for the tournament.
Al Franklin of Ancilla College was named MCCAA Coach of the Year.
