The Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) is proud to announce that they have accepted Montcalm Community College in Sidney, MI as the Association's 24th member. The Centurions were tentatively approved to join at the Association's September meeting pending approval by the NJCAA. That approval came and the Centurions are now a member that will start competing in the 2023-24 season.
Montcalm will field six MCCAA sports in their first year, men's and women's bowling, men's and women's cross country, men's golf and volleyball. They will also sponsor non MCCAA of co-ed Clay Target shooting. Montcalm athletic director Hunter Redman commented on joining the MCCAA, "On behalf of Montcalm Community College, we are excited for this opportunity to rejoin athletics after our forty-year absence. This isn't only great to enhance our institution's culture on campus, but this will, most importantly, give our student-athletes more opportunities to continue their passion for sport into the collegiate level. We look forward to growing our programs to compete alongside the other programs within the conference and deliver an outstanding experience that our students and student-athletes deserve."
MCCAA President Bryan Rizzo also remarked on the addition of the Centurions, "We are excited to have another Michigan Community College join the league. Montcalm is committed to athletics from the President through the administration. We welcome them to the MCCAA and look forward to watching their program grow and evolve."
