June 9, 2007 - The Michigan Community College Athletic Association is proud to announce that Gene Gifford of Muskegon Community College is the recipient of the 2007 MCCAA Athletic Director of the Year.  Gifford, who also serves as the MCCAA President, is the first two-time recipient of the award.  He also won the award  in 1996.  Muskegon CC becomes the first college to have the award presented to its Athletic Director three time as J. Paul King won the award in 1992.

"Gene Gifford showed tremendous leadership through a tumultuous year in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. Gene’s commitment and extra effort made the difference!", said Gene Reese of Ancilla College, who was the chairman of the Athletic Director of the Year committee.

"I was very honored to receive this  award.  It is an honor that I share with the Muskegon Community College athletic staff and coaching staff.", comment Gifford.   "As President of the MCCAA I have always had the support of all the athletic  directors within the MCCAAA organization which has made my job much easier."

June 8, 2007 - The Michigan Community College Athletic Association is proud to announce that Jackson Community College was unanimously  admitted as the 19th member of the MCCAA.  Jackson CC had been a provisional member during the 2006-07 season, in accordance with the MCCAA constitution. This is Jackson's second stint as an MCCAA member.  Jackson withdrew from the association in the 1980's.

Jackson had a very successful first season with the baseball team qualifying for the Region XII baseball tournament and the men's and women's cross country teams each finishing fourth and Jessie Olds earning All-MCCAA and All-Region Honors in cross country.  The Jets also fielded a softball team this past season.  They will be adding men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball for the 2007-08 season.

By becoming full fledged members it means Jackson can compete for conference and MCCAA Championships, as well as the MCCAA All-Sports Trophy.

“On behalf of the administration, faculty, students and staff of Jackson Community College and the communities we serve, we would like to thank the leadership and members of the MCCAA for their vote earlier this week to readmit JCC as a full league member.", comment Steve Bloomfield, Athletic Director at Jackson CC. Bloomfield also said,  "We truly appreciate the league’s willingness to work with our College during the past 18 months while we developed our new sports program.  The 2007-2008 academic year proved highly successful with the introduction of men’s and women’s cross country, baseball and softball and this would not have happened had it not been for the generosity and professionalism of the MCCAA membership.”

"The MCCAA is very pleased to have Jackson Community  College join our association as a regular member.", said MCCAA President Gene Gifford.  "We have been very impressed by  Jackson Community College’s plan to implement their athletic program and the progress they have made to this point.  Steve Bloomfield has demonstrated tremendous leadership, dedication, and commitment."
